Country Retreat, Edgmond

BRIEF
Located in the rolling Shropshire countryside with surrounding views of the Lilleshall Monument to frame and having a large garden wrapping around the house this was the perfect project for our design team to get involved in. Initially the garden had an intrusive retaining wall very close to the house and needed to be redesigned to improve flow and usage of the garden. The change in levels lent to the use of a water wall feature set amongst floaty planting to soften the brickwork and provide enclosure in an exposed garden.

DESIGN & BUILD PROCESS
Remedial works were required to create shape and provide an improved entertaining space. As the existing garden was laid to lawn with very little screening for privacy and lack of any form or shape. Creating shape and form was important to enable the client to enjoy their garden and unlock its full potential. A view of Lilleshall Monument was framed with ornamental planting beds. Drifts of naturalistic Native Wildflower Meadow adds colour and movement within the landscape. Buffer tree planting added form and improved visual interest to the lower western boundary of the garden.
From the lower patio area a paved pathway leads to a Circular terrace with retaining curved wall surrounded with planting beds to give enclosure and also enhance vistas of the surrounding countryside.

RESULT
A dynamic landscape that blends into the surrounding Landscape due to planting softening boundaries. Flurries of colour and texture in summer with seedheads and evergreen structure in winter. Unity is achieved with the selected planting palette alongside varied Native Tree and Native Wildflower Meadow planting provides the perfect sanctuary for habitat creation and improving the natural environment. The relaxing sound of water trickling and a large circular patio lends to entertaining and alfresco dining for improved social interaction while high quality materials invested in have unlocked the full potential of this large country garden and will be enjoyed for many years to come.
