Reflections of Rennie Mackintosh

The inspiration for this garden at RHS Tatton 2000 came from the Glaswegian Architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928)
Reflections of Rennie Mackintosh aims to echo his approach to design and using his values. This garden has taken all the elements that Rennie Mackintosh is known for – strong lines and form, elongated art-noveau curves and, most of all, his stylised roses and combine them to create a garden that is stunning yet practical.
We created a unique mirrored cascading water feature, which was tall and thin, and it stood 5ft high. We also had bespoke made fencing and furniture to complement the design.
The garden’s main colour scheme was purple and lilac and we had only two weeks to build the garden, which was set in a 6m by 4m space.
Within the planting scheme we used the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Rose. This rose varies from lilac to soft lilac-pink, according to the weather conditions and has an old rose fragrance with aspects of lilac and almond blossom. Its form is upright with bushy growth.
