Rear Garden Transformation
In early 2023, Butler Landscapes were commissioned to redesign and build a tired and overcrowded rear garden in Shropshire. The clients wanted a family garden design that provided more usable space, greater privacy, and planting that would offer seasonal colour and structure throughout the year.
Design & Build
The original garden lacked flow, with dated paving and decking limiting its potential. Our team developed a bespoke Shropshire garden design that introduced structure and character while maximising the available space. A circular sunken patio framed with stone setts now forms the central entertaining area, surrounded by raised beds and pleached trees for instant privacy.
Sweeping pathways and a newly defined lawn area improve circulation and connect the garden’s different zones. Planting pockets soften the hard landscaping and lead the eye naturally towards focal points, such as a relocated mature Acer and feature planters.
Planting & Features
The planting scheme was designed to combine low-maintenance structure with year-round interest. Pleached Photinia create screening, while perennials such as echinacea, grasses and ferns provide movement, colour and texture. A mature Acer positioned centrally creates a striking focal point from the house, tying the scheme together.
Result
The finished garden is a perfect example of landscape design and build in action. What was once a tired outdoor space is now a modern, elegant garden that balances hard landscaping with lush planting. It provides areas for entertaining, relaxation and play; a true family garden transformation that enhances the property and will be enjoyed for years to come.
