Bolesworth Arena Show Gardens

Bolesworth Show Jumping Arena Show Gardens 2009

Brief

At the prestigious Bolesworth Horse Show, we were honoured to create two standout show gardens set within the iconic main show jumping arena.

Inspired by the historic architecture of Bolesworth Castle, our design took direct cues from the castle’s distinct twin turrets, one round and the other hexagonal. We translated these contrasting forms into two sculptural garden spaces that celebrated both structure and spirit.

Each garden became a living turret, a sanctuary of planting and form, brought to life through carefully balanced design. At their hearts stood two striking wire sculptures by acclaimed artist Derek Kinzett. A female figure in the round turret and a male figure in the hexagonal, each embodying a blend of elegance, stillness and subtle tension.

Our planting softened the bold geometry of each space, blurring the boundaries between precision and nature, art and environment.

The sculptures weren’t just symbolic; they were deliberately chosen to spark curiosity among spectators and even catch the attention of passing horses. Their delicate yet ghostlike presence offered an intriguing pause in the visual rhythm of the arena, a reminder that gardens, like performances, can stir emotion, provoke reaction and shift energy.
