A Mediterranean-Inspired Poolside Retreat
From the outset, our client made it clear they were looking to create more than just a garden. They envisioned a year-round, poolside retreat a space for entertaining, exercising and unwinding with friends and family. Inspired by Mediterranean living, their goal was to extend the home’s living area outdoors with a space that offered both functionality and tranquillity.
Rather than purchasing a property abroad, the client asked us to recreate that same feeling at home. A key feature of the brief was replacing the existing pond with a covered, louvred swim spa. This element needed to be safely and seamlessly integrated into the landscape, with easy access, strong visual appeal, and structural stability.
Generous patio space for entertaining was another priority. We selected materials that complemented the home’s character and preserved the existing well feature as a visual focal point. Flow through the garden was essential, connecting the poolside and patio areas to a soft lawn that offered space for both adults and children to enjoy.
We addressed level changes at the back of the garden with walling softened by planting, creating a gentle transition. Privacy was also important, so we introduced new boundary fencing and lush planting pockets to provide natural screening and a sense of enclosure.
This project was about more than design it was about reflecting a lifestyle. The result is a cohesive, tranquil outdoor space that balances beauty and practicality while enhancing the garden’s original charm.
