From Foundations to Garden

Brief

This garden transformation began with an unusual challenge – the site was originally laid with foundations for a house that was never allowed to be built. Instead of leaving the plot unused, we reimagined it as a vibrant and characterful garden, making use of the existing structure to create something truly unique.

Reclaimed brickwork was used to build a series of raised beds, adding texture, height and timeless character. These beds were planted with a mix of evergreen shrubs, herbaceous perennials and seasonal flowers to ensure colour and interest throughout the year. At the heart of the design, a central sandstone bed and metal obelisks create striking focal points, while two cascading water features bring sound, movement and atmosphere to the space.

A timber-framed gazebo provides a sheltered seating area for dining and relaxation, set on natural stone paving for durability and style. Trellis panels and thoughtful planting soften boundary views, creating privacy and a sense of enclosure.

By combining structure with softness, this design turned disused house foundations into a welcoming garden sanctuary. It’s a perfect example of how imaginative garden design can adapt to unusual circumstances and transform even the most challenging sites into beautiful, functional outdoor spaces.
