Contemporary Rooftop Garden, Manchester
Explore our projects for your outdoor transformation
Butler Landscapes were commissioned to design and build a luxury rooftop garden in Manchester, working in collaboration with award-winning David Keegan Garden Design. The project transformed an underused terrace into a modern outdoor living space with stylish hard landscaping, bespoke planters and carefully chosen planting.
The build required innovative solutions due to rooftop access and weight restrictions. To achieve the corten look without the weight, we installed lightweight corten-effect GRP planters and screens, sourced locally from Europlanters to reduce the project’s carbon footprint. These were raised on a Millboard subframe system for improved drainage and long-term durability.
The scheme also included:
The soft landscaping combined multi-stem Amelanchiers, sensory plants such as Salvia and Stachys, and ornamental grasses for texture and seasonal interest. We installed a 7,500-litre rainwater harvesting tank linked to an automated irrigation system, ensuring efficient and sustainable watering for all planters.
The completed rooftop garden in Manchester is a private retreat high above the city. It provides space for entertaining, relaxing and enjoying nature in a modern urban setting. Butler Landscapes’ attention to detail, craftsmanship and innovative installation methods ensured that every element complemented the contemporary design, resulting in a garden that is both practical and breathtaking.
