Residential Gardens
Working across Stafford, Chester, Shropshire and beyond, we design outdoor spaces that you can enjoy
If thoughtfully designed, your garden should feel like an extension of your living area, offering a space where you can relax, host gatherings and enjoy quality time with family and friends.
At Butler Landscapes, our residential garden designers will work closely with you to create a garden that meets your needs and complements your lifestyle. From planting design to installing paving, water features and other hard landscaping elements, we can take care of every detail. Take a look through some of the residential gardens we’ve worked on below.
Split-Level Garden Transformation
This garden transformation involved overcoming a steep and uneven site to create a level, functional, and visually balanced outdoor space. The project began with substantial groundwork - our team constructed a reinforced retaining wall to stabilise the rear boundary and allow the garden to be built up safely.

Modern Garden with Swim Spa & Outdoor Kitchen
This large family garden started as a long stretch of lawn with little interest or functionality. Our clients wanted a complete redesign that would bring structure, year-round planting, and dedicated areas for entertaining, while incorporating a swim spa and outdoor kitchen.

Japanese Island Garden
This unique project was created on a private island, where specialist engineering and design came together to create a tranquil Japanese-inspired retreat. To carry out the work, we first had to shutter the island and carefully manage the water levels to allow construction to begin.

Cottage Garden
The owners of this small cottage garden wanted a complete redesign. The existing space felt open and exposed, with little structure or character. Their brief was to create a garden that offered privacy, defined entertaining areas, and a strong sense of cottage charm while remaining practical and easy to maintain.

Timeless Garden
More than 25 years ago, Butler Landscapes were commissioned to design and build this private garden. The project transformed a small, unstructured plot into a mature landscape with flowing lawns, shrub borders, and spaces for year-round enjoyment.

Terraced Retreat
Our client had an extensive brief; they wanted to create specific areas for entertaining, while retaining a cottage garden feel that included planting to attract bees and space for growing fruit and vegetables.

Centre Court
Our client wanted to completely transform their existing space by incorporating a tennis court, additional seating areas, flowerbeds and a neat lawn, all linked by winding gravel paths.

Sunken Garden
We were tasked with transforming an unused swimming pool into a stylish sunken garden. We achieved this by constructing a new Millboard seating area under the existing pavilion, incorporating water features and colourful plants, and creating a series of linking, accessible paths.

Farmhouse Gardens
Our team was challenged to redesign this large domestic garden. We created a circular sunken garden, a parterre, a wildlife pond, a kitchen garden and a wildflower meadow, all connected by a series of pathways. The transformation was so impressive that it earned us a BALI Award.

Hillside Terrace
We were asked to create a more social space and maximise light in this North-facing garden. We achieved this by extending the lower terrace area into the existing lawn, constructing a cascading water feature and installing a fire pit area with strategic lighting.
